ARISS Project 2023

ARISS Project

On the 6th October 2023, Sacred Heart took part in one of the most exciting projects we have ever been lucky enough to be involved with. Two students from 5th class along with ten other students from all over Dublin were chosen to speak live to the International Space Station in conjunction with the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) project and TUD (Technological University Dublin).  On the day the two 5th classes went to TUD and spent the day taking part in events for Space Week while Nathan and Nadine prepared for the live contact. At 2.11pm the astronaut, Jasmin Moghbeli from NASA, answered the call on the fourth attempt and all of the children lined up to ask their questions. Nadine asked Jasmine ‘How do you contact your family?’ and Nathan found out how Jasmine gets a haircut in space!

The children were so excited and were even interviewed for the radio and newspapers after the call. We are so proud of Nathan, Nadine and all of the children for their participation and for how well they represented Sacred Heart.
