World Book Day 2013

World Book Day 2013

Last month we celebrated World Book Day 2013! This is always a fun day in the school and Friday was no exception. The event kicked off on Thursday 7th of March with the 6th class students attending an event in the County Library.

On 7th of March 6th class students took part in ‘The Biggest Book show on Earth’ for World Book Day. They visited Tallaght Library and watched a live feed hosted by Tony Robinson. The authors and illustrators involved spoke for 5 minutes each about their books, writing and illustrating. The children found the topics interesting, helpful and inspiring- they now plan to create their own stories and books. They enjoyed Anthony Horowitz in particular who was really enthusiastic. Shirley Hughes was very comical. The library gave them free books and bookmarks which, of course they loved and really appreciated. They had a great time and didn’t mind getting drenched on the walk back to school!!
Where's WallyThe following day, Friday the 8th, was time for the rest of the school to get involved! The 5th class students had a ‘Big Fat World Book Day Quiz’ in the hall. In teams of five the children answered 8 rounds of questions based on books available in our school library. The children took part in an audio round, a guess the book round and a ‘Who Am I?’ famous author round including 4 authors the children had met this year- Don Conroy, Judi Curtin, Oisin Mc Gann and Sarah Webb! The Quiz was a great success and the children really enjoyed it! Well done to the students who also dressed up!
Dressing up was the order of the day in Third and Fourth classes. The children looked fantastic dressed up as their favourite book character. The winners all received a ten euro voucher as their prize. The fourth classes even had a special guest appearance from Mr Mack who read them excerpts from The Meanwhile Adventures by Roddy Doyle. Strangely, there was no sign of Ms. Mc Carthy or the fig rolls from the staffroom for the afternoon..!??

A great day was had by all. A huge THANK YOU to all the teachers who took part and planned such enjoyable and fun activities! A special thank you to Mr Mack.
