Building tallaght village 100 years ago

how we made it! a fly through of our town: In Mr. Maguire’s 3rd class we have been building Tallaght village. We wanted to make it as it looked 100 years ago. We spoke to historians, looked at maps, used old photos and recounts and spoke to locals about what it was like. We used the maps to build the village in Minecraft. Trip to Collins Barracks & the 1916...

Ms Murray’s 4th class went on a trip to see the 1916 garrisons. We went to Collins Barracks first. We saw the Proclamation and heard it being read it out and we saw the ripped up Irish flag. We had a little picnic out on the grass. We got a bus, we parked it and started to walk to the GPO. On our way there we saw the Rosie Hackett Bridge. We got to the GPO and we saw some bullet holes in the pillars holding up the GPO. We saw photos of the seven men who signed the Proclamation. There were pictures nearly everywhere.   There was great excitement in Killinarden Community Centre on the 14th March. Children from schools in the area got together to display their work based on a community project. The project was titled ‘Tallaght/ Killinarden past and present’ and was organised by our Local Education Committee (LEC). The LEC is made up of different people from the community, HSCL teachers and parents. Trip to Dublin Castle On Wednesday 27th of November some parents went on a trip to Dublin Castle. We had a guided tour of the state apartments and then we were brought underground to see the old remains of the castle.  It really is a great place to visit and is steeped in history.
