Before Christmas we had a poetry week in school and chose our ten favourite original poems for publication online.
Thanks to all who took time to read our poems and either emailed or voted online for their favourites. The top three poems compiled from your votes are.
'Alien Invasion' by James
'Gaelic' by Nicole
''Christmas Day' by Chloe
We hope you enjoyed reading our work.

Alien Invasion
Pink alien

AAAhh, scream, run and shout
There’s an invasion of aliens zapping about.
Help, run, shout and scream
Please God make this a dream.
People are running and hiding in rivers
And I keep getting the shivers.
I hid in the closet hoping it would end
But I met an unfriendly friend.
He told me that he came from Mars
And he said “I’m hungry and I Don’t like Mars bars”
I went on his alien ship which was green
Then I woke up, phew it’s a dream.

Winter

Winter is cold
We all wrap up warm
I ant to go home
Because of the storm.
It’s cold and it’s damp
It’s windy and wild.
It really is hard
For me a small child.
As I walk around
In the ice and snow
The pavement is slippy
The cold wind blows.

My Family

Family

Let’s start off with TJ he is the smallest.
Then my brother Daniel, he is the tallest.
My Mam she changes her mood.
My brother Kenneth he is so rude.
My sister always brings me to town.
She has a purple and black crown.
My best friend Amy she is so cool.
She is great fun, she isn’t a fool.
My cat Missy she loves my sisters bed.
When she’s asleep I rub her head.
My dogs they always bark.
Me and my mam bring them to the park.
My hamster nibbles on her cage.
If I don’t feed her she goes into a rage.

My New House
House

All our stuff is packed away.
We are going to our new home today.
The kids are getting in the car.
They are saying “I hope we aren’t going too far”.
Mum and dada are getting stressed
but mum is saying “It’s for the best”.
We hope the school is not too far.
If so we’ll have to go by car.
We ran up the stairs to see our room.
When we got there we could see the moon.
This house has a very nice view
But now I have to say goodbye to you.

Christmas

We’re celebrating Christmas,
it’s Jesus’ birthday soon.
We’re busy learning songs and lines,
cause our play is on Thursday at noon.
Our Christmas tree is up,
the lights are flashing bright.
Mam is busy cooking,
I can hardly sleep at night.

Christmas Day

Christmas Day
Hip, hip hooray!
Rudolph the reindeer is on his way.
I am getting ready.
Santa is busy too.
Toys, games, books and sweets,
Many things and lots of treats,
A knitting set for me I pray,
Sing a song, it’s Christmas Day.

Gaelic
Footballer

Amy Jo is our goalkeeper,
Nobody can ever beat her.
Rose and Shannon are in the backs,
They fight off every attack.
Nicole and Louise are in the middle
Ms. McCarthy is as fit as a fiddle.
Louise is small, she goes with the ball.
Nicole can kick the ball so high,
It flies away into the sky.
Even though she’s out so far,
It always goes over the bar.
Michaela gives her heart and soul,
She’ll always try to score a goal.
Leanne can tackle the other player,
You’d thing she is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
When Matisho gets the ball,
She bursts through them all.
I’m so tough I get Michaela so rough. Ha!

Santa Claus

Santa, Santa
how do you fly
so high in the sky?
With your reindeers
in the sky
don’t forget Rudolf ‘cause
he is so shy.
In the night
you shine so bright
flying high in the night.
Santa, Santa wave at me
I will be happy
when you put my presents
under the tree.

A Christmas Poem

It was a cold and frosty morning,
Hooray it was Christmas day.
With church bells ringing and the choir girls singing,
I love Christmas day.
Kids with all their toys,
Everyone opening wrapped gifts.
Fun with all girls and boys,
Oh! Oh! What a big surprise.
A bike for me, a phone for my brother.
A watch for my mammy, a camera for my daddy,
And whiskey for Uncle paddy.
Oh I love Christmas day.
Ham and turkey for dinner
And trifle for desert.
It tastes like heaven on earth.
Time to rest now and say goodbye.
I love Christmas day.

My Trip to the Zoo

The zoo

Me and Alex went to the zoo
because there was nothing else to do!
We saw a bunny eating a carrot,
then we saw a hippo talking to a parrot!
We saw pigs, we saw geese and we saw cows
We could hear the cats meow!
The day was over, we were sad
So all the animals went mad!!!
