Native American Customs

Native Americans have lots of different tribes. We found out that there are 500 officially recognized tribes in North America.
The Algonquins are a tribe. The Algonquins settled in North Carolina. Every six months the Algonquins came for a powwow or meeting. The powwow was an occasion for feasting and dancing.
The Cherokee people settled in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Carolina, and Georgia before there were borders between them. They had a great respect for nature. Festivals were held each year to celebrate planting and harvesting corn. During the festivals people painted their faces white to represent happiness.
The Native Americans still live in reservations to this day.
