To celebrate netd@ys 2004 we had a poetry week in school and chose our twelve favourite poems for publication online.
Thanks to all who took time to read our poems and either emailed or voted online for their favourites. The top three poems compiled from your votes are.

"Red" - Kerry O'Connell
"Noises" - George Scott
"Homework" - Shauna Curley

If you like the 2004 poems check out the entries and winners from 2003's Poetry Competition.

Homework
Doing homework

Homework, homework
Oh, how I hate homework.

I don’t have enough time to play.

But in the end I have to do it.
‘Cos I can’t think of excuses every day.

Christmas

I like Christmas it is so near.
When I open my presents I am full of cheer.
When I go outside I play in the snow.
Making snowballs I will throw.

Christmas dinner is so yummy
Jelly and ice cream in my tummy.
Eating lots and lots of sweets
I really love those Christmas treats.

Precious Pink

Pink is the colour of the sunset at night,
Pink is the colour of Turkish delight
Pink is the colour of a little girl’s dress
Pink is the colour that I love best
Pink is the colour of the lips that shine
Pink is the colour of sweets all mine
Pink is the colour of my cute poodle dog
Pink is the colour of a yummy marshmallow flog

So now that I told you
What I think, have a sit down
And think pink!

Santa

Santa is on the way.
And he comes to all the houses.
Now everyone is excited!

The decorations are up
And everyone loves Christmas.

Christmas Eve

Waiting for the day to end
Christmas is just around the bend
People rushing here and there
Everyone’s full of Christmas cheer.

People buying presents now
All the sales are going down
Hot chocolate beside the fire
Then Mam trips over
The Christmas tree wire.

Christmas lights all so bright
The Christmas tree is a nice sight
Christmas turkey in the oven
Next day to be eating and loving.
Sitting waiting just to say,
I can’t wait until Christmas Day.

Internet Poetry Competition time!

Morning

Dog with newspaper

Toast popping
Birds singing
Bottles clanking
Alarm ringing
Sun blooming
Babies crying
Dogs barking
Really annoying
Kettle boiling
Radio talking
Doors slamming
People walking
All in the morning time.

Sand

Boy in sand

Sand in my fingers
Sand up my nose
Sand in my toes
Sand in my sandwich
Sand in my banana
Sand in my bed
Sand on the beach
Sand on the desert
Sand every where.

Winter's Here

Short days, long nights
Telly in the evenings
Lights on everywhere
We wear extra underwear.

Warm beds, sleepy heads
As they wake in the morning
Snow fall, bare trees stand so tall.
Warm coats keep us warm,
As we leave for school
Just after dawn.

Red
Sunburn

Red is the colour of blood in your vein
Red is the colour of your hurt and pain
Red is the colour of your heart
Red is the colour of a rhubarb tart
Red is ANGER!

So if you feel red
And it’s stuck in your head
Just forget all about it
And go to bed.

Noises....

The whoop of a boy, the thud of a hoof,
The rattle of rain on a galvanised roof,
The hubbub of traffic, the roar of a train,
The throb of machinery numbing the brain,
The switching of wires in an overhead tram,
The rush of the wind, a door on the slam
The boom of the thunder, the crash of the waves,
The din of a river that races and raves.

Drugs

Drugs needle

Strangers selling on the street
They don’t care if your life is beat
Heroin cocaine, tablets and hash
Make good decisions, don’t be rash
Sick, pale, skinny and dizzy
Drugs send life into a tizzy
Don’t think you’ll always have friends
The choices you make it all depends
They stick a needle in their arm
Kids don’t realise it does such harm
Tablets, pipes and pills
Kids watch out it really kills
Drugs aren’t cool, don’t be a fool
Drugs are thrash, don’t be rash!
