Our School Garden

We have a garden in our school. The fifth classes look after the garden in the school. They planted potatoes, peas, rhubarb, black currants, runner beans and Jerusalem artichokes. We use bamboo canes to assist the runner beans and peas in their growth. Our caretaker (Aka Dessie) helps the children look after the garden by watering the plants, cutting the grass and digging the soil. This year Deirdre Keogh, who is a gardener, has come into our school to help us with some gardening through the Heritage in Schools Project.

South Dublin County Council gave us a sculpture for our garden. It is called a moon bench and stools. The sculpture was made by Tom Dalton and some children from the school did the mosaics on the stools in Killinarden Community Centre. The bench has lovely designs and the stools have nice patterns.
